KHAGRACHARI: A Khagrachhari court handed down life-terms to five persons on charge of abducting a child twelve years ago.

The convicts were also fined Tk 50,000 each.
They have to stay one more year behind the bars, in default. 

The court of Khagrachhari Women & Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mohammad Ismail announced the verdict Monday (April 15). 

The five convicts are—Nayan Dhar, 34, Md Yunus, 33, Md Yasin, 32, Md Nitu alias Litu, 33, Md Prince, 34.

Of them, Prince has been absconding. The others were produced before the court during the verdict announcement.

The convicts adducted Ujjwal Dhar from Mohalchhari Bazar of Khagrachhari on February 20, 2007.

They demanded Tk five lakh as ransom from the victim’s family; otherwise threatened to kill the child.  
 
On information, RAB-7 rescued Ujjwal Dhar from a residence in Muhuripara area of Agrabad in Chattogram.

Afterwards, the victim’s father Ankar Dhar, as a plaintiff, filed an abduction case.
