SHARIATPUR: Police Sunday (Feb 3) arrested five people in Gosairhat upazila in the district as they were collecting extortion from fish-laden trucks in the guise of policemen.

The arrestees are Mohamaad Ali, 38, son of Amin Uddin, Slim Sarder, 35, son of late Rashid Sarder, Jamal Sarder, 35,  Aziz Sarder, 35, Mintu Rari, 35, son of Miachan Rari, and Farid Molla, 30. All hailed from different villages of Gosairhat upazila. 

Md Selim Reza, officer in charge of Gosairhat Police Station, told Banglanews that the detainees were collecting extortion from fish-laden trucks on Potti Bridge in the guise of policemen early hours of the day. 

Being informed, police rushed to the spot and detained them. Legal action would be taken against the detainees, he added.
