Khaleda granted bail in Cumilla arson case

DHAKA: The High Court granted bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in an arson case filed in Comilla under Special Powers Act.

The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman on Sunday (January 27) granted the bail extension plea till disposal of the case at the trial court concerned.

Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon stood for Khaleda Zia while Deputy Attorney General Dr. Md. Bashir Ullah stood for the state.

Dr. Md. Bashir Ullah said, “Earlier, the court granted bail in the case on August 6, 2018. Lawyers sought further extension after expiry of the bail period. Today the court accepted it.”

The case was filed for torching a covered van in Cumilla's Chauddagram upazila in February, 2015. She was shown arrested in the case on July 1, 2018.

Khaleda Zia has been serving her five years’ jail sentence in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case since February 8, 2018.
