Educational institutions may remain close till Sept: PM

DHAKA: All educational institutions across the country will remain closed till September if the situation caused by the coronavirus outbreak does not improve.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while holding a videoconference with the public representatives and officials of eight districts in Rajshahi division on the present coronavirus situation of the country.

She said: "We won’t reopen schools and other educational institutions now, at least till September. These schools, colleges and other educational institutions will remain closed as coronavirus prevalence continues…".

If the coronavirus effect continues, she said, the educational institutions will remain closed. "We’ll reopen those when it (coronavirus) will stop," the premier also said.

"The government has given highest priority on saving lives of the people and ensuring their livelihood during this coronavirus pandemic," she said.

The videoconference started at 10am on Monday at the prime minister’s official Ganabhaban residence, and the public representatives and officials of the eight districts of Rajshahi division are connected to it.

The districts are Bogura, Chapainawabganj, Joypurhat, Naogaon, Natore, Pabna, Rajshahi and Sirajgonj.
