JUST expels 8 students, sacks staff The 54th meeting of JUST Regent Board

JASHORE: The authorities of Jessore University of Science & Technology (JUST) handed down lifetime expulsion to three of its students and one-year expulsion to five others each.

Besides, a library staff of the varsity was sacked on charge of harassing a female student mentally.

The orders came from the 54th meeting of Regent Board, the highest policy-making body of the JUST, on Saturday (April 20). 

The students expelled for life are-- Humayra Azmira Erin, Ekramul Kabir Dwip and Roknuzzaman.

Their fellows expelled for one year are-- Asif Al Mahmud, Motassin Billah, Mahmudul Hasan Shakib, Nishat Tasnim and Harun-Or-Rashid.

The charges on which the students were handed down the punishment include misbehaving with teachers and involvement in a chaos over anti-ragging poster campaign on the campus in January. 

The JUST authorities conducted thorough investigation before handing down the punishment and prohibited ragging on and off the campus.

JUST Treasurer Prof Abdul Majid, Jashore-3 MP Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Education Ministry's Additional Secretary Jabed Ahmed and Jahangirnagar University (JU) Chemistry department Prof Dr Shariff Enamul Kabir, among others, attended Saturday's meeting chaired by JUST Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Anwar Hossain.
