JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY: Jahangirnagar University (JU) authority has suspended 11 students of its microbiology department on charge of sharing offensive photos of female fellows and teachers by creating a group in Facebook.

Besides, some of them were simultaneously fined Tk 5,000 each.

They were handed over the punishment in separate terms.

JU Acting Registrar Rahima Kaneez confirmed the action in an office order Wednesday (Jan 30).

The action was taken following an investigation ran upon a complaint filed by 17 female students of microbiology batches 45 and 43, over indecency and repression.

The accused are—Md Naim-e-Akter, Izaz Ahmed, Md Mehedi Hasan, Md Iqbal Hossain, Md Sajib Hossian, Md Al Amin Shoishob, Md Abu Nayeem, GM Tariqul Islam, Md Shahriar Khan, Nahidul Islam and Md Omar Faruk.

All of them are from 45th batch.

As many as 12 students of the batch created a Messenger group where they shared secretly-captured indecent photos of female students and teachers of the same department and made objectionable conversation.

JU administration formed a three-member committee to run investigation into the matter after receiving allegations.

JU’s 304th syndicate meeting handed down the 11 students the punishment.
