DHAKA: Energy and Mineral Resources Division has sought clearance of the cabinet committee on government purchases for the import 6 lakh metric tonnes of petroleum products from Kuwait.

Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division Mohammad Mejbahuddin sent a letter to the purchase committee on June 21 seeking its seal of approval to the big deal.

The letter said that a meeting between BPC and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) was held in Singapore on April 19 and 20 this year. In that meeting KPS agreed to supply BPC this quantity of petroleum products for US$ 442.274 million.

As per the accord, the petroleum corporation of the oil-rich Gulf state will be shipping the fuels in the period between July and December to Chittagong Port.

Country’s requirement of refined petroleum products from July to December this year will be 15 lakh MT, including jet fuel.
