WASHINGTON, DC: Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said strong and weak banks will be integrated.

The minister said “State banks are doing well, but some private banks are not doing well up to the standards. Therefore, weak banks will be integrated into strong ones."

The minister briefed reporters after emerging from a meeting with World Bank officials at its main office in Washington, DC on Friday (April 12).

AHM Mustafa Kamal said, “Law will be formulated for integration, if there is not a law for integration. If needed, the law will be amended. If powerful banks do not agree to integrate into the weak ones, then Bangladesh Bank will take action in this regard.” 

Money, AHM Mustafa Kamal said, will come to the country, but no laundering of money to foreign banks. Automation will be launched in bank sector. Transparency and accountability will be ensured in all areas.

Speaking about investment in Bangladesh, he said International Finance Corporation (IFC) will invest 1 billion dollars in private sector from next year. As a result, a lot of employment will be created, while eliminating poverty on a wide scale with the creation of job opportunities.
