Food and Hospitality Expo kicks off at ICCB

DHAKA: The Food and Hospitality Bangladesh Expo 2019 has kicked off at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the city on Thursday (February 14).

Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury inaugurated the 3-day long fair as the Chief Guest at ICCB Hall-2.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Secretary Md Mohibul Haque, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation Chairman Akhtaruzzaman Khan Kabir were also present as the Special Guests, with Bangladesh International Hotel Association (BIHA) Chairman and Hotel Agrabad CEO H M Hakim Ali in the chair.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said such expo will further accelerate the development of the tourism sector. We have to do more in this sector. 

“The private sector will have to come forward in this regard. They have to invest in the sector. The government will provide them required facilities”, he added.

The minister also called for such exhibitions in outside of Dhaka especially in tourism cities like as Chittagong, Cox's Bazar.

H M Hakim Ali said this kind of expo is the first ever in Bangladesh. Stakeholders from home and abroad are taking part in it. Through this, we will be able to highlight the cuisines and hospitality of our country to the world.

The expo is being organised by Bangladesh International Hospitality Association (BIHA) and Wem Bangladesh Limited under the supervision of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation.

70 exhibitors from seven countries, 150 brands, 200 international delegates and 50 hosted buyers are participating in this exhibition. 

Apart from Bangladeshi exhibitors, delegates, exhibitors and buyers from India, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Italy and Spain are participating in the event.
