Dhaka Stock makes 5 records on a day

DHAKA: Dhaka Stock Market (DSE) on Tuesday witnessed five major records in terms of market capital, trading, exchange and rise of DSE and general indexes.

The market capital reached at Tk 2,96,010 crore with a rise of Tk 2,419 crore than the previous day, which was the highest market capital in the history of DSE for a day.

On the other hand, a total of 969,01248 shares and mutual funds were traded.

This was also a record of trading in a day. Besides, share transfer also hit a record with total 2,89,965 transfers.

The total turnover of the day was Tk 2,438 crore and 88,16,808, which was Tk 287.76 crore more than the previous day and only 50 crore less than the highest turnover record.

Market analysts, however, said the records were not normal and expressed concern over the recent overvalued stock market. They warned small investors to trade carefully.

On Tuesday, shares of 254 companies were exchanged. Price of 115 companies marked rise while 131 recorded a fall while eight companies remained unchanged.

The general index of DSE rose by 41.98 points Tuesday to 6662.96 while the DSE index increased by 42.39 points to 5563.24 points.

The companies which traded highest were-Summit Power, Lanka Bangla Finance Ltd, Titas Gas, Bextex Ltd, Beximco Ltd, People’s Leasing Finance Services Ltd, Summit Port alliance, Far East Life Insurance Ltd, Union Capital and Prime Finance Ltd.

The companies whose shares marked rise are Beximco Synthetics, City General Insurance, united Insurance, Bextex ltd, Summit Power, Shinepukur Ceramics, Malek Spinning, Ambi Pharmaciticles, Glaxosmithcline and Rahima Food.

Apex spinning, Rupali Life Insurance, Bangladesh Shipping Corp, Sonargaon Textile, Padma Cement, Gemini Sea Food, Delta Spinning, Chittagong Vegitable, Saiham Textile and Mithun Knitting suffered slump.
