Record transaction on DSE: Tk 11,000 crore this past week

DHAKA: Riding high on the back of a bull run of shares of banks and financial institutions, weekly trade transactions on Dhaka Stock Exchange hit its highest-ever record at about Tk 11,000 crore this past week.

Market operators said the financial-sector blue chips helped both the price indices and trade turnover rise sharply on the country’s premier bourse.

The market recorded transactions worth Tk 10829.42 crore from July 4 to July 8, having a daily transaction of Tk 2,165 crore on average.

In the previous week, the bourse also marked a record high in stock trading that amounted to Tk 10,800 crore.

From the very beginning of this week, the market turned around. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) failed to control the bucks of the market even after having several meetings with lending organizations.

“Finally, the SEC lowered the margin-loan ratio and made a decision for monitoring the market more strictly,” said one SEC official.

Arif Khan, president of Merchant Banks Association, told banglanews24.com.bd that most of the banks gained higher benefits this time compared to that of last year.

As a result, investors became interested in this sector and the transactions took a sharp upturn with the price rises on the share market, he added.

“Some new companies had listed with the market, which also helped increase the transactions. But condition of the market is stable,” claimed Khan.
