DHAKA: Biman Bangladesh Airlines has resumed service on Dhaka-Delhi route after a suspension for nearly four years.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali inaugurated the resumption Monday (May 13).

He said the direct flight service on Dhaka-Delhi route will take the existing Bangladesh-India ties to the public level.

The route will be a profitable one and has raised hope as Jet Airways stopped service in India, said Biman Secretary Mohibul Haque.

Indian Deputy Ambassador Joydip, Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Additional Secretary Mokabbir Hossain, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Naim Hassan, Biman Managing Director and CEO Captain Farhat Hasan Jamil, among others, attended the inaugural ceremony.

Sources at the national flag carrier said that the flights will leave Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 3pm on Saturday, Monday and Thursday and reach Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi at 5:20pm.

The return flight will leave for Dhaka from the same airport at 6:20pm local time.

Marking the resumption, Biman offered 15% discount in tickets.

Biman General Manger (Public Relations) Shakil Meraj said that 162-seat Boeing 737-800 aircrafts will be flown on Dhaka-Delhi-Dhaka route.

On August 23, 2014, Biman suspended operation on the same route "due to loss".
