DHAKA: Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said medicine for tuberculosis will be produced in Bangladesh soon.

The minister said, “A project has been taken for the production of tuberculosis medicine. Besides, diseases which are not contagious are increasing day by day. Currently, there are 65 percent such patients in the country.”

The minister came up with the disclosure at a media briefing on the occasion of World Health Day-2013 at the ministry on Thursday (April 04). 

Like other countries, April 7 is observed in Bangladesh as the World Health Day, he said.

This year’s slogan is 'Equality and solidarity-based universal primary healthcare'. That is in our country’s context very important issue, he added on that.

“The government is working to bring about equality in health sector.  No one will remain out of healthcare,” Zahid Maleque said.

He also said Bangladesh has taken a lot of initiatives to ensure universal healthcare in order to achieve UN-declared Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

The aims are as follows-reduction of mortality rate of mother and infant, spread of contagious and non-contagious diseases, increase of universal reproduction rate, control of  undesired reproduction rate, increase of average life expectancy of men and women, ensure of nutrition and quality of living standards, fixing age of mother during the birth of the 1st child.
