Local Ad in foreign TV channel: 2 orgs show caused

DHAKA: The government started taking actions against those involved in the promotion of local advertisements in foreign television channels for violating its prior restriction.

The Information Ministry on Monday (April 1) issued show cause notice to two cable network service providers—Nationwide Media limited and Jadu Vision Limited-- for promoting local advertisements in the down-linked foreign TV channels.

After issuing prior warning for several times, Television unit of the ministry issued the notice for violating the sub section 19(13) of the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act 2006, said Mir Akram Uddin Ahmad, senior information officer of the Information Ministry.

TV channel owners in the country claimed that local TV channels were facing lost due to the promotion of advertisements through the down-linked foreign TV channels in Bangladesh.

Earlier on March 30, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said if anyone is airing local advertisements on foreign channels from April 1, legal action will be taken against those.

He made the announcement while addressing a discussion titled ‘Private TV Channels in Crisis’ at Shilpakala Academy in the city.
