Bangladesh VS New Zealand Test Series
1st Test Played at Bay Oval Mount Maunganui from January 1-5 2021
New Zealand 328 All Out  (Devon Conway 122, Henry Nicholls 75 Will Young 52, Henry Nicholls 32*, Ross Taylor 31, Shoriful Islam 3/69, Mehedy Miraj 3/86 Mominul Haq 2/6, Ebadat Hossain 1/75)
Bangladesh: 1st Innings 175/2 (Mahmud Hasan Joy 70, Nazmul Hossain Shanto 64, Neil Wagner 2/27)

It was a day to remember for Bangladesh cricket in playing top quality cricket against the world test champions. Spirited Bangladesh Cricket team playing to full potential first restricted New Zealand to 328 all out within the first session of day two. Then the otherwise brittle Bangladesh top order battling with the swing of Southee and Boult, bounce and aggression of Wagner and left arm swing of tall Jamieson battled out reaching 175/2 by stumps of day two. Young Joy and not too old Shanto producing 104 runs second wicket partnership impressed all. Our heart pumps with joy when commentators shower praise for Bangladesh players.

January 2022 witnessed the best day of Bangladesh in a test match in New Zealand. In recent time against a very strong Black Cap bowling attack in New Zealand batted better than what young less experienced Bangladesh batted. It was only the second time since 2019 any visiting team top order produced 100 runs partnership. The visitors included India, Pakistan and West Indies.

Starting the day at 258/5 home team was never in comfort combatting the great combination of pace of spin of Bangladesh attack. Shoriful, Taskin and Ebadat resumed where they let on day one. Mehedy Miraj getting some assistance from the wicket exploited the weakness of black cap late order. Even Mominul with his golden arm picked another important wicket as Bangladesh wrapped up New Zealand first innings for 328 runs. Shoriful (3/69), Miraj (3/86) and Mominul (2/6) were peak of the bowlers. Taskin and Ebadat also bowled well. Shadman took 4 catches.

Though the wicket flattened out a bit with green grasses turning grey yet it had plenty of bounce. Ball also swung whole day. But for a change all four Bangladesh batsmen applied and batted superbly. Shadman was first to go when Wagner snapped him up taking a low return catch off his own bowling. Shanto and Joy batted brilliantly first weathering swing storm, then combatting with hostility of Jamieson and Wagner. The pair left many and played positively when opportunities came their way. It required Wagner constantly bending his back and producing a fast out swing to get Shanto caught in the gully by Young. Shanto scored 64 .The second wicket partnership sored solid 104. Captain Mominul joined Joy and battled out the remaining part of the day. No praise would be enough for Joy playing only his second test his gutsy unbeaten 70 playing 2010 in 211 deliveries is among the best any visiting team batsman produced in recent time. Off course New Zealand missed a couple of opportunities to get him out. But fortune always favors the brave. Bangladeshis can take lot of pride from the way the team played the first two days of the test against the world champions. Hope Bangladesh can keep the momentum going.

I can dare say it is turning of the tide yet. But nevertheless Bangladesh gave a great account of them with all round abilities.
