Bangladesh VS New Zealand Test Series
1st Test Played at Bay Oval Mount Maunganui from January 1-5 2021
New Zealand 258/5 (Devon Conway 122, Will Young 52, Henry Nicholls 32*, Ross Taylor 31, Shoriful Islam 2/53, Mominul Haq 1/5, Ebadat 1/53)

On a green top wicket giving plenty of assistance to pace and swing Bangladesh with four frontline bowlers did exceptionally well restricting home team to 258 or five.

Bangladesh is still in the match. If Bangladesh can strike early with second new ball still fresh early on day two and restrict New Zealand below 350 they can make a match of it. The wicket may flatten as predicted by the commentators.  Few may dispute the decision of Mominul putting home team to bat after winning the toss. But we believe Bangladesh batsmen would have struggled against much superior black caps bowling on bowling friendly condition early on. Hope Bangladesh with 8 genuine batsmen should bat reasonably well on day two.

Taskin, Shoriful and Ebadat in the first hour of the first session on the first day of 2022 perhaps bowled the best spells by a Bangladesh bowling unit in any test in recent memories. Captain Latham fell early to brilliant catch by keeper Liton from the inside edge of the bowling of Shoriful. Taskin also constantly teased and tormented bowling on the right corridor at pace. Two reasonably new Kiwis (off course well experienced of New Zealand Condition) brilliant Conway and Young grafted, applied themselves leaving balls smartly. Their 138-second wicket partnership retrieved the home team from a very tight condition before Shanto with a smart pick up and throw to Liton caused Young losing his wicket scoring 52 in 138 deliveries. However, Mominul however, missed an opportunity of seeking DRS against Young from a genuine nick. After the fall of Young Veteran Taylor appeared for one last time of his illustrious career. He was going ok till he was caught off the bowling of Shoriful in the covers scoring 31. We must admire the patience and application of New Zealand batsmen. They played most balls according to merit.

Bangladesh missed a trick letting Miraj a bit two longer spell. Off course he kept it letting Mominul rotate his pacers. Bangladesh felt the absence of a genuine pace bowling all rounder. All the while Devon Conway batted beautifully. He scored his second century in only his 4th test and now scored 501 runs in 7 innings at an average of 71. The way he is batting he would create few new milestones although he burst into test arena a bit late. He has excellent technique and great skills. His 122 featured 16 fours and a six. He got out to a lazy touch down his leg stump off the bowling of Mominul. Bangladesh wretched control of the innings as Bundell was played on off the bowling of Ebadat. 258/5 at stumps we can say day one honors were evenly shared. Bangladesh had a rare exceptional bowling day in test in New Zealand. Shoriful was peak of Bangladesh bowlers taking 2/53. Taskin also bowled well without luck.
