Pakistan Require 93 Runs for winning the test

Awful looking Bangladesh at stumps of day four of Chattogram test was staring at huge defeat. With all 10 wickets in tact Pakistan scoring 109/0 need only 93 more runs on day five for winning the test.

Bangladesh with top less and bottom less batting and limited bowling resources must thank their luck that the match could be stretched to day five. Against very hostile and penetrative pace bowling of Shaheen Shah Afridi (5/32) and Hasan Ali (2/52) Bangladesh scoring 157 in the second innings could set a target of scoring 202. Pakistani openers setting a new milestone of producing century opening partnership in both innings wiped out 109 from the target. Bangladesh can only escape a humiliating defeat if heaven opens up and heavy deluge wash out the fifth days play.

This Bangladesh top and bottom order look pretty ordinary against quality pace bowling. They neither know playing fast short balls aimed on the body, neither can leave. Also, the four men bowling attack lacks quality and variety. Yet in the first Innings Liton (114), Mushfique (91) with the bat and Taijul (7/116) created contest. Bangladesh gained useful 44 runs first innings lead. But for poor skill and batting technique Bangladesh could not set a big enough target getting bundled out second time for 157 runs. Liton (59) again playing confidently created some resistance. Debutant Yasir Rabbi (36 Retired Hurt) was looking great till being struck on the back of his head by a sharp rising delivery. He was replaced (concussion Replacement) by Nurul Hasan. Hasan Ali when misjudged his sharp in swinger shouldering arms undid Mushfique. Shaheen Shah Afridi taking 5/32 got his 9th five wicket haul in brief test career. The pace and bounce he extracted from Chattogram wicket made him a menacing threat for Bangladesh batting.

Chasing 202 for win Pakistan openers batted superbly yet again producing unbroken 109 in the opening partnership. It was the only second time that Pakistan has done it in the same test match. Abdullah Shafique is the second debutant being in partnership after it happened in 1929.  Abid Ali (56*) and Abdullah Shafique (53*) batted with supreme confidence. When stumps were drawn early on day four for dark cloud cover causing light issue Pakistan required another 93 for well-deserved huge win.

It pained ardent admirers of Bangladesh cricket watching the poor technique; skill and temperament of Bangladesh batsmen against pace bowling. It appeared that in 21 since achieving test status Bangladesh failed producing quality top order batsmen for handling quality fast bowlers.  With 1st test almost done and dusted Bangladesh has to ponder how to select playing XI at Dhaka? Bangladesh sadly missed Tamim, Shakib and Mahmudullah in the test.
