Bangladesh In Tight Leash At Stumps on Day Three

Walton Test Series
Bangladesh VS Sri Lanka
2nd Test

Brief Scorecard at Stumps Day Three:
Srilanka 469/6 (Lahiru Thirimanne 140, Dimuth Karunaratne 118, Oshada Fernando 81, Niroshan Dickwala 64* Pithum Nishanka 30, Ramesh Mendis 22, Taskin Ahmed 4/ 127)

Sri Lanka 2nd Innings 17/2.

Bangladesh 251 All Out (Tamim Iqbal 92, Mominul Haq 49, Mushfiqur Rahim 40, Praveen Jayawickrama 6/92)

Sri Lanka leads by 259 runs with 8 wickets at hand.

Getting bundled out to 251 responding to Sri Lanka first innings declared at 493/7 Bangladesh is on tight leash. Sri Lanka did not enforce the follow on. Batting second time Sri Lanka scored 17 runs losing 2 wickets in 7 overs . Hosts may bat for two more sessions and throw a target of 400 plus on the wearing wicket . Bangladesh would struggle to save the test from there.

Bangladesh can blame them for the situation they are in now. It is not Sri Lankan pace bowlers that tormented Bangladesh batsmen. Rather it was debutant left arm orthodox spinner Praveen Jayawickrama, who accounted for dismal Bangladesh batting. He took 6/92 in his dream debut. Three seniors Tamim (92), Mominul (49) and Mushfique (40) did most of the runs. But I would blame them also. Judging the nature of the wicket and lack of quality in Bangladesh batting at least one of them should have applied more to play longer innings.

Bangladesh cannot chase or defend any target on the fourth and fifth day on the deteriorated wicket.
