In the boy against men derby Rishabh Pant led Delhi Capital (DC) carrying forward its momentum of IPL 13 out gunned his boyhood hero MS Dhoni led Chennai Super King by 7 wickets. The most consistent team of IPL with its experienced set of loyal army failed proving competitive with the blend of youth and old. Batting first CSK did not do all that bad scoring 188/7 in their allotted overs. But with a fluent opening partnership again with Indian Champion Shikhar Dhawan (85 in 54 Balls) and Prithibi Shaw72 in 38 deliveries) setting up a 138 runs opening partnership DC cantered past the target in style scoring 190/3 in 18.4 overs . DC started its mission 2021 with a bang winning the match by 7 wickets.
Earlier in the morning it was thought that the match would produce tight contest. Pant winning the toss chose to field. Teams could not choose from the full contingent as South African recruits arriving late were still serving quarantine terms. DC could not have Kagiso Rabada or Anrich Nortze. Neither could CSK use Lungi Ngidi. Still inform English pacer Chris Woakes and Indian Avesh Khan rocked CSK removing both the openers within the third over making the scorecard looking sad at 7/2. From there on CSK Loyal Suresh Raina ( 54) and steady English All rounder Moeen Ali (36) resurrected the innings putting together 53 runs third wicket partnership. But apart from these two there was hardly any good partnership built. DC bowlers kept on taking wickets at regular interval. Perhaps MSD made a small mistake in not letting the enterprising English all rounder Sam Curran coming early. Coming at number eight his 34 in 15 deliveries could give CSK a score of 188/7 which perhaps was at least 20 runs short on the easy paced wicket with lightening fast out field. MSD could score nothing. Woakes (2/18) and Avesh (2/23) bowled miserly tight.
Elderly statesman Shikhar Dhawan (85 in 54) and new fluent Indian Opener Prithivi Shaw ( 72 in 38 deliveries ) giving a solid start of 138 in the first wicket partnership ensured that there is no drama . DC cruised across the target scoring 190/3 in 18.4 overs. DC winning by 7 wickets let out a strong message to all that they are a serious contender for IPL 14 in 2021 . CSK looked a bit rusty.
