Unstoppable Mumbai Indians Is In The Threshold Of Creating History

Mumbai Indians (MI) is the only team in IPL history to have won the championship 5 out of the 13 times it has been held since 2008. They have won the top honor in 2011, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. MI became is the second side after Chennai Super Kings to win the IPL title in consecutive years when they won the tournament in UAE last year. They also broke their jinx of not winning a trophy in an even year. If MI manages win the title this season, they will be the first franchise to win the IPL title in 3 consecutive seasons.

Own by Reliance Industries of Mukhesh Ambani the team is coached by Sri Lankan Icon Mahela Jayewardene. Indian maestro Rohit Sharma leads an effective blend of flamboyant explosive batsmen and match winning penetrative bowlers. This year even the son of Indian great SR Tendulkar has joined MI.

2021 Squad:
Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan (WK), Chris Lynn, Anmolpreet Singh, Saurabh Tiwary, Aditya Tare, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Anukul Roy, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav, Dhawal Kulkarni, Mohsin Khan, Nathan Coulter Nile, Adam Milne, Piyush Chawla, James Neesham, Yudhvir Charak, Marco Jansen, Arjun Tendulkar

The smart strategy of MI is at retaining entire championship winning playing XI of 2020. Players like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Keiron Pollard, Hadrik Pandiya and Krunal Pandiya stays in the playing XI for the last five years. The strong base of local content makes it the most consistent team of IPL history.

Match Winners In MI:
If we look at the squad, we find Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Cock as one of the most destructive opening pair of world cricket in white balls. Surjaumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan in international cricket have proved that each of them are match winners. If the four in the top are not enough Pollard and Pandiya brothers as well as Neesham and Lynn when opportunity comes can rock and roll. MI has possibly the best batting unit and longest line of match turning batsmen.

Anyone from the three Trent Boult, Adam Mline and Coulter Nile pairing with Jasprit Bumrah can tease and torment most of the batting unit if wicket has any purchase for pace bowling. James Neesham, Hardik Pandya and Junior Tendulkar are available for providing support.

If there is any weakness in the team that is the lack of quality finger spinner. Rahul Chahar and Piyush Chawla will lead the spin department. They have resources to fall back upon Krunal Pandiya, Anukul Roy and Jayant Yadav.  From the schedule we find Mumbai Indians would have to play 5 matches on the turning track at Chennai. MI may feel the absence of a quality finger spinner.

But MI has rich bench strength. No team can expect that players like Dhawal Kulkarni, James Neesham and Adam Mline are there to replace likes of Bumrah, Pollard and Pandya.

Preferred Playing XI: Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Cock, Surjakumar Yadab, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Keiron Pollard, James Neesham/ Krunal Pandya, Piyush Chawla, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult / Adam Mline / Coulter and Jasprit Bumrah.

The one disadvantage that MI would be having that COVID 19 impacts would deprive them from playing at home. They tournament Nile in 2021 will be launched with MI locking horns with Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore at Chennai on 9 April 2021. As bad starter MI has lost most of their first matches in IPL. Followers of MI definitely like to see Rohit Sharma army changes that and winning the trophy third time in a row rewrites IPL history.
