Bangabandhu ODI Series
Bangladesh VS West Indies
1st Match Played at SBNCS on 20 January 2020
Brief Scorecard at Innings Break
West Indies 122 All Out in 32.2 Overs (Kayle Mayers 40, Rovman Powell 28, Jason Mohammad 17, Shakib Al Hasan 4/ 8, Mustafizur Rahman 2/20, Hasan Mahmood 3/ 28)
Two world class Bangladesh bowlers redoubtable Shakib webbing his magic spells, cutter master Mustafiz bowling to his reputation and new find Hasan Mahmud bowling like Vini Vici Vidi decimated under strength West Indies to a paltry score of 122.
It should be cakewalk for strong Bangladesh batting to cruise across the target. Bangladesh renewed its mission 2021 in international after long layoff due to COVID pandemic today at its den at SBNCS against touring West Indies depleted for absence of most of its first-choice team members. However, many of the Caribbean players were in touch of International cricket being included in the WI touring squads to England and New Zealand. Others played in Caribbean franchise CPL. On the other hand, Bangladesh could not appear in any international cricket of any format. However, Bangladesh won the last 5 ODIs against full strength WI in bilateral engagements and international tournaments including 2019 ICC world Cup.
Bangladesh ranks higher than WI in ICC ODI ranking. At home Bangladesh can win against full strength WI most of the time. They are even considered favorite for winning against full strength WI outside Bangladesh. Hence under strength WI is not expected to create much of an issue for full strength Bangladesh. But Bangladesh required let off a strong message in the very first appearance. They have done that with penetrative bowling and smart fielding . Super Star Shakib reappeared in International arena in his own brilliant style taking 4/8 in miserly 7.2 overs. Mustafiz appeared in his own self proving too good for WI batsmen. He took 2 for 20. Very impressive Hasan Mahmood in his dream debut took 3/20. Off the WI batsmen all-rounder Kayle Mayers scoring 40 in 56 deliveries and Captain Jason Mohammad scoring 28 ensured that WI could reach three figures.
With West Indies innings done and dusted Bangladesh must bat positively and record a cake walk.
