New Zealand VS West Indies Test Series
1st Test Played at Hamilton New Zealand,
Brief Score Card at Stumps On Day two

New Zealand 519/7 declared (KS Williamson, TWM Latham 86, KA Jameison 51*, LPRL Taylor 38, ST Gabriel 3/89. KAJ Roach 3/114),
West Indies 49/0 (JD Campbell 22*, KC Braithwaite 20*)

A career best 251 by Kiwi master batsman KW Williamson firmly anchoring their innings against quality West Indies pace bowling attack laid the backbone of a mammoth first innings score of 519/7 by New Zealand on day two for the Hamilton test. West Indies in reply at stumps were 49/0 still 470 runs behind. The Caribbean batsmen have to bat out of their skins to save this test.

Kane was cool like cucumber against four men strong pace attack. In his characteristic mode he remained unruffled and when in control played delectable strokes. It was his 22nd century 81 tests in and his highest. His previous highest was 242*.

Records evidence that the great Don Bradman got a century every 1.79 tests. Steve Smith did it at 2.81, Kohli at 3.19 is clear third. Younis Khan 3.47 seems to be next, Warner 3.50, Sangakkara 3.53, Sobers 3.58, Chappell 3.62, then Williamson / Kallis / Gavaskar tied on 3.68. In terms of at least 30 Innings, Bradman tops the list with 36.25% of his Innings being hundreds. Second is Headley with 25%, Williamson is 19th with 15.6%. Smith is 4th with 19.85% and Kohli is 7th with 18.62%.

Winning the toss New Zealand opted to bat after rain cut short a bit of the first session of day one. After Gabriel removing Young in the 4th over. Latham and Williamson set the foundation with a solid 154 runs second wicket partnership. Latham scored 86 before being cleaned up by roach. Two senior statesmen Williamson and Taylor batted till stumps of day one reaching 243/2. Williamson was 97 not out. On day two Gabriel and Roach threatened to run through the Kiwi innings taking three quick wickets. But Williamson was unperturbed. He found an able allay in Jamieson playing only his third test. Kane completed his double century as the pair put on useful 94 in the 7th wicket before Kane fell to Josef scoring 251. His marathon innings spread over 412 deliveries included 32 fours and 2 sixes. Jamieson remained not out 51. New Zealand declared at 519/7. Gabriel 3/89 and Roach 3/114 could have bundled out Kiwis cheaply had there been no rock of Gibraltar named Williamson in between.

West Indies openers batted solidly remaining unseparated for 49. They now have task at hand to continue applying themselves.
