Demo at Press Club begins as BNP man killed in Bhola clashes 

BNP today (Aug 2) has staged a rally protesting the killing of Abdur Rahim, a member secretary of local Swechchhasebak Dal, in the clashes between the police and the party activists. 

Leaders and activists of the BNP started the demonstration at 10:00 am in front of the Jatiya Press Club. 

The political party's Dhaka city north and south units arranged the demonstration where a large number of BNP leaders and activists took part.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is expected to attend the meeting as the chief guest.

Earlier on July 31, Abdur Rahim died in a clashed with law enforcers in Bhola town during the programme to protest the power crisis and price spiral of essentials. 

Besides, more than 50 others were injured in that clash with police during the party’s demonstration against the ongoing power cut and mismanagement in the power sector at Kalinath Roy Bazar in Sadar upazila of Bhola district.

A total two cases registered against the BNP activists where 400 sued over clashes with police in Bhola that left a man dead and scores injured.

On July 26, BNP decided to stage demonstrations across the country protesting the ongoing load shedding and "mismanagement" in the energy sector.

BNP Secretary General announced the protest programme at a press conference at BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office.
