Jamalpur's Dewanganj Municipality Mayor Shah Newaz Shahanshah was suspended for allegedly slapping an upazila secondary education officer during a Victory Day programme on December 16.

A notification, signed by Farzana Mannan, deputy secretary of Local Government Division, was issued in this regard on Tuesday (Dec 21).

On Thursday, Mayor Shahanshah slapped and assaulted Upazila Secondary Education Officer Meher Ullah at a Victory Day event for announcing his name at number five.

Earlier on Monday, local Awami League expelled him for engaging in unlawful activities that breached the party’s discipline.  The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of Jamalpur district unit of AL last night, said a press release.
