PCJSS activist killed in Rangamati ‘shootout’ with army

An activist from Santu Larga group of Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samity (PCJSS) was killed in a reported shootout with members of an Army petrol team in Dullachhari area under Kaptai upazila of Rangamati on Sunday.

The disclosure was made in an ISPR press release on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Bilton Chakma, an activist of PCJSS led by Jyotirindriya Bodhipriya Larma, popularly known as Santu Larma.

According to ISPR release, Bilton was the main extortionist in Baradam, Jibtali and Mogban areas of the district and was accused in several cases.

On information about extortion, a special team from Jibtali Army Camp went to the area and saw some armed miscreants on a boat collecting money from fishermen.

As the team tried to seize the boat, the release said, miscreants opened fire targeting the patrol team who retaliated by firing back in self-defence. The miscreants then jumped off the boat and managed to flee by swimming ashore.

Later, army men searched the boat and found Bilton’s bullet-hit body with a loaded foreign made pistol, said the release.
