DB to investigate case against Irfan Salim

The case against Irfan Salim, son of lawmaker Haji Salim and suspended ward councillor, was transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of police on Wednesday.

Inspector (Probe) Md Ashfak Rajib of Dhanmondi police station, also the investigation officer of the case, confirmed the news of transfer to Banglanews. 

The case was filed with Dhanmondi police station in the capital against Irfan Salim for assaulting and attempting to kill a Navy official on Monday.

Earlier in the day, a Dhaka court placed Irfan Salim and his bodyguard Zahid on a three-day remand each in the case. They are currently under the custody of Dhanmondi police.

IO Ashfak said the accused will be handed over to DB upon receiving court order on Thursday. 

Navy official Lt Wasif Ahmed Khan along with wife was going to his destination by a motorcycle Sunday evening. As the vehicle of Haji Salim hit the motorbike at Kalabagan intersection area, he stopped the vehicle and confronted its driver and passengers. 

Wasif also disclosed his identity being an officer of Bangladesh Navy.  At one stage, some people came out the vehicle and started beating Lt Wasif and verbally abused his wife as she protested the incident. 

Bystanders and commuters rushed to the spot and captured a video of whole incident by mobile phone. The video went viral on social media.

After the victim filed the case, RAB conducted a drive in Haji Salim's residence in Old Dhaka and arrested Irfan and his bodyguard. A mobile court jailed Irfan for 18 months and his bodyguard for six months.
