DHAKA: The High Court Monday directed the government not to hold back BNP lawmaker Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annee from going abroad, after he was recently barred from flying for Singapore.

An HC bench comprising Justice Mohammad Abdul Wahhub Mia and Justice Kazi Reza-Ul-Haque came up with the order as Anee filed a writ challenging the legality of the restrictions imposed on his foreign trip.

The court also issued a rule upon the government to explain within four weeks why the bar imposed on Anee’s going abroad “should not be declared illegal”.

Anee’s lawyer barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon told banglanews24.com.bd that the Home Secretary, the Inspector-General of Police, and Dhaka’s Police Commissioner and Deputy Police Commissioner were made respondents.

Earlier on august 8, the lawmaker, who was injured in attacks during the June 27 hartal, was sent back from Shahjalal International Airport while leaving for Singapore for treatment.
