Police foil JCDÔÇÖs bid to block Dhaka-Aricha highway, 15 injured

SAVAR:  Police on Monday foiled a bid to block busy Dhaka-Aricha highway by the activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of opposition BNP.

Police and witnesses said, at least 15 JCD workers were injured in baton charge by law enforcers as the opposition workers brought out a procession to protest announcement of committee by the central unit.

Two workers were detained but released later, police added.

During the police action, the highway remained halted for a while.

Savar police station’s officer-in-charge Mahbubur Rahman said police resorted to baton charge as the procession was brought out without prior permission of the authorities.

Local sources said the demonstrators protested announcement of Savar thana and college committees by the central unit of the party.
