DHAKA: BNP Vice-chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury was taken on another one-day remand Sunday in the case of torching a vehicle near Maghbazar rail crossing on the night before the June 27 hartal that left one dead and two burn-injured.

Additional chief metropolitan magistrate Mohammad Ali Hossain granted the bail after he was produced before the court with 7 days’ remand prayer.

Sub-inspector of Ramna thana Shahed Al Mamun filed the case against seven suspects in the arson attack, including Mobin and BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas.

Fatally injured in the car fire, Faruque died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on July 1.

Shamsher Mobin was arrested during hartal and taken on a one-day remand on June 28 in a Gulshan case on charges of picketing, vandalizing vehicles, obstructing police duties and making attempt to murder police personnel by strangulating.

After the remand was over on July 1, he, however, got bail in the Gulshan thana’s case, but Ramna police showed him arrested again on the evening of the same day.
