BNP leader and Sylhet City Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury has announced that he will not contest the upcoming Sylhet City Corporation elections.

He made the announcement at a public meeting held at the Registrar Ground in Sylhet's Bandarbazar at 3:00 pm today (May 20).

As per the schedules, the Gazipur City Corporation election will be held on May 25 while Khulna and Barishal on June 12, and Sylhet and Rajshahi on June 21.

Recently, BNP called upon the country's people to boycott the upcoming elections to five city corporations under the current government.

Besides, BNP earlier announced that it would not go to the city elections and the party threatened to expel its leaders in five cities if they participated in the polls.
