Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-3) arrested 24 snatchers including their gang leader during the night of Tuesday's (Oct 4) blackout.
The snatchers were identified as Md. Rajan, 22, Md. Billal Hossain, 19, Md. Hriday Hossain, 19, Md. Jasmat, 15, Md. Enamul Haque, 22, Md. Rana, 28, Md. Sujan, 26, Md. Shaheen, 26, Md. Billal Hossain, 25, Md. Heart, 19, Md. Mubarak Hossain, 19, Md. Johnny, 30, Md. Abu Bakkar Siddique, 24, Milan Chandra Mandal, 38, Md. Sujan, 20, Md. Ripon, 40, Md. Aman Hossain (20), Md. Sharif Uddin, 21, Md. Rony, 20, Md. Arif Hossain, 20, Md. Idris, 29, Md. Nur Uddin, 54, Md. Sohel, 19, and Md. Alamin, 32.
Various domestic weapons including poisonous ointment, switch gears, cutters, blades, scissors, knives, and razors were recovered from the accused at the time of the arrest.
RAB-3 captain Lt. Colonel Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed confirmed the matter on Wednesday (October 5) morning.
He said, on Tuesday night, 24 robbers were arrested in Shahjahanpur, Motijheel, Paltan and Jatrabari areas of the capital. The accused were regularly robbing cars in these areas. Taking advantage of the huge blackout yesterday due to national power grid failure, the gang planned for a large-scale robbery.
Legal action against the accused is under process, added the official.
