Jatiya Party leader attacked in Pirojpur 

A local leader of Jatiya Party came under attack as his opponents cut his ankle in Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur Thursday (Sep 29).

The injured was identified as Md. Shafiqul Islam, general secretary of the party's Tushkhali union.

The incident occurred around 9:30 am near Bangga Pool in Gudighata village of the upazila.

However, Shafiqul received injuries in different parts of his body. He was then rushed to Mathbaria Upazila Health Complex, and after treatment, doctor referred him to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

According to local sources, 5-6 assailants stopped him on his way to Mathbaria from Tuskhali and they severed his left leg and cut various parts of his body.

Officer in charge (OC) of Mathbaria police station Nurul Islam Badal confirmed the matter.

Efforts are on to arrest those involved in the attack, said OC, adding, the reason behind the attack could not be known immediately.
