Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a person with 30 gold bars while he attempted to smuggle those into India through Benapole’s Balunda area of Jashore.
The BGB in a raid made the arrest and recovered the gold bars on Saturday.
The arrestee has been identified as Ashikur Rahman, 32, son of Abdur Razzak of Balunda village under Port Thana in Benapole.
Ashikur was carrying 30 gold bars weighing 3kg 498gm worth Tk 2.53 core.
Lt. Col. Tanvir Rahman, 21 BGB commander, confirmed the arrest of Ashikur and recovery of the gold.
Ashikur Rahman was handed over to Benapole Police Station in connection with the gold smuggling.
In the last six months, 21 BGB recovered 17 kg 574 gram gold of which estimated value is Tk 12 core.
