Man held for 'killing' mother in Chattogram

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a man who allegedly shot his mother to death at Patia in Chattogram.

The diseased was identified as Jesmine Akter (52), wife of former Patiya municipality chairman and Jatiya Party presidium member Md Shamsul Alam.

RAB arrested Mainuddin Mainu (30) and seized a pistol, said RAB-7 senior assistant director (Media) Md Nurul Absar on Thursday (August 18).

Mainu allegedly shot her dead over the dispute over family property and bank deposits left by his father, he suspected.

Patiya Police Station inspector (investigation) Rashedul Islam said Jesmine's husband died on July 13, 2022.

Mainu's sister Shaila Sharmin Nipa on Tuesday (August 16) night, filed a case against her brother with Patia Police Station.

Jesmine Akter went to a bank with her daughter Nipa on Tuesday morning. As Mainu learned that his mother went to bank with his sister, he had an altercation with his mother on Tuesday afternoon. 

At one stage, he opened fire on his mother. Critically injured mother Jesmine Akter was rushed to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctor declared her dead.
