Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a person with 16 gold bars weighing 1.846kg along the Goga border in Sharsha at Jashore on Wednesday (August 17).

The arrestee was identified as Johnny, hails from Benapole, son of Mizanur Rahman of Chhota Achhra village of Port police station.

Lieutenant Colonel Tanceer Ahmed (PSC), confirmed the matter.

He said acting on a tip off, a BGB team conducted a drive and arrested Joni at 9 am today and recovered 16 gold bars worth Tk 1 crore 53 lakh.

However, the smuggler along with the gold has been handed over to Sharsha police station, the BGB official added.

According to report, in last six months Khulna 21 BGB has seized 8.5 kg gold and arrested five smugglers. The value of seized gold was around Tk six crore.
