Five Journalists assaulted in Lalmonirhat

Five journalists were physically assaulted by some miscreants while performing their professional duties in Lalmonirhat on Friday (August 12).

The injured are Anishur Rahman Ladla (Jamuna TV Lalmonirhat correspondent) and camera person Ahsan Habib, Abdur Rob Sujan (Prothom Alo Lalmonirhat correspondent), Mahfuzul Islam Bakul (Now TV), and Rabiul Islam Ravi (Dainik Ajker Hatibandha correspondent).

According to information, four of the injured journalists were admitted to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital this evening.

Locals said Panchagram Union Awami League President of Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila Azizar Rahman Mandal's younger son Ward Jubo League President Sultan Mandal (38) father of two children got involved in extramarital affairs with a neighbor's housewife. 

A few days ago Sultan Mandal fled with that woman, then his wife’s family filed a complaint at the police station in this regard.

Following that incident, four journalists visited Sultans place on Friday afternoon to gather information about the incident. After gathering information, Azizar Rahman Mandal and his elder son Saheed Mandal suddenly blocked their way.

Later they tortured them and broke the cameras they carried.

District Awami League General Secretary Advocate Motiar Rahman visited the hospital to see the injured journalists. 

He strongly condemned the incident and ordered the law enforcement agencies to quickly arrest the accused. 

He also said that Awami League will take action against them.
