JCD leader’s death: BNP’s hartal underway in Bhola

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is enforcing a day long dawn-to-dusk hartal on Thursday in Bhola for protesting the death of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) district unit President Nure Alam in a clash between police and BNP activists.

BNP leaders and activists hold demonstrations at around 8:00am on Thursday (August 4) in support of the strike.  

Rickshaws, autorickshaws and other transport do not run on roads. Besides, a large police force is deployed across Bhola city.

Earlier on July 31, Abdur Rahim, an activist of BNP was killed and more than 50 others were injured in a clash with police during the party’s demonstration against the ongoing power cut and mismanagement in the power sector at Kalinath Roy Bazar in Sadar upazila of Bhola district.

Nure Alam suffered bullet wounds during a clash with police on that clash.

Later on, August 3, Nure Alam, who had been on life support in a hospital in Dhaka passed away, triggering protests across the country.

A total two cases registered against the BNP activists where more than 400 sued over clashes with police in Bhola.

Earlier on July 26, BNP decided to stage demonstrations across the country protesting the ongoing load shedding and "mismanagement" in the energy sector.
