DBC journalist assault: Cop held 7 

Private television channel DBC News staff reporter Saiful Islam Jewel and camera person Azad Ahmed were attacked while collecting news on allegations against a trading company.

The incident took place near Taltola Bazar in the capital on Tuesday (August 2) afternoon.  

The Shere Banglanagar police station has detained 7 people including Kausar Bhuiyan, the owner of Victor Trading Corporation, in connection with the attack.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shere Banglanagar Police Station Utpal Barua confirmed the matter to Banglanews. 

He said that a complaint has been lodged with the police regarding the attack on the reporter and camera person of DBC. 

However, on the basis of that complaint, Kausar Bhuiyan has been arrested. The accused will be interrogated regarding the incident, said OC.

Uppal Barua also said that a case is under process in this regard.

Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (Crab) president Mirza Mehdi Tamal and general secretary Asaduzzaman Biku, along with members of the executive committee, expressed strong condemnation and concern over the attack on Jewel in a statement.

Besides, they requested the intervention of the government to ensure that those concerned are immediately brought under the law and exemplary punishment for obstructing the professional work of journalists.

Earlier, on Tuesday (August 2) afternoon, Journalist Saiful Islam Jewel went to collect information about irregularities and corruption in the purchase of medical parts at Victor Trading Corporation. 

After that those miscreants attacked them, on the same time camera was vandalized and footage deleted by the terrorist group of Kausar Bhuiyan, the owner of the company. 

The victims also alleged that the terrorists strangled the reporter to kill him.
