BGB seizes smuggled goods, drugs worth TK 137m in July

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled goods and drugs worth Tk 137.3 million and 88 thousand during raids in various places including the border areas of the country throughout the month of July.

The liaison officer of the BGB Shariful Islam confirmed this information on Tuesday (August 2).

The seized drugs include 1 lakh 262 yaba tablets, 12 kg 400 grams of crystal meth ice, 3 kg 147 grams of heroin, 31 thousand 174 bottles of phensidyl, 14 thousand 633 bottles of foreign liquor, 4 thousand 721 cans of beer, 344 liters of local liquor, 2 thousand 538 kg of hemp, 4 16 thousand 301 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 19 thousand 272 narcotic injections, 6 thousand 714 cough syrup, 536 kg of tobacco leaves, 1 thousand bottles of Mkdil/Cofidil, 4 lakh 30 thousand 414 different types of medicines, 16 thousand 695 Anegra/Senegra tablets and 77 thousand 800 other tablets.

The smuggled goods include 582.68 grams of gold, 26 kg of silver, 1 lakh 75 thousand 646 cosmetics, 3 thousand 814 imitation jewellery, 10 thousand 76 sarees, 1 thousand 397 three-pieces/shirt-pieces/sheets/blankets, 1 thousand 92 ready-made garments, 1 thousand 27 cubic feet Wood, 1 thousand 816 cubic feet of stone, 8 thousand 359 kg of tea leaves, 1 lakh 31 thousand 700 kg of coal, 441 kg of current mesh, 15 rough stone statues, 5 trucks/covered vans, 5 private cars/microbuses, 6 pickup vans, 32 CNG/ Easy bikes, and 70 motorcycles.

The weapons recovered during the drive were 6 pistols, 7 rifles, 10 guns, 1 gun, 5 magazines, 1 mortar shell, 1 rifle barrel, 31 empty shells, and 28 rounds of bullets.

Legal action has been taken against 260 smugglers and 362 Bangladeshi citizens and 23 Indian citizens for illegally crossing the border during BGB raids on the border area.
