Journalist assaulted by mayor’s brother in Faridpur

A local journalist was physically assaulted by the younger brother of Alfadanga Municipal Mayor and his followers at Alfadanga Upazila in Faridpur.

The name of the journalist is Mujahidul Islam Naeem. He is the Alfadanga correspondent of the daily Dhaka Times and Organization Secretary of Alfadanga Press Club. 

The incident took place at Alfadanga bus stand in Faridpur on Monday (August 1) at noon.

After the incident, the locals rescued and took him to the Upazila Health Complex. When his physical condition deteriorated there, the doctors referred him to in Faridpur Medical.

Alfadanga Municipal Mayor Saifur Rahman Saifar told Banglanews, “I don’t know the details yet. I am looking into this matter.”

Alfadanga Press Club President Sekender Alam said that such beating was done with the intention of killing Muhajid.

"There was a conspiracy to kill him. But he was saved as the locals came forward. The matter has been informed to the local Upazila executive officer and the officer in charge (OC) of the police station,” He said.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Alfadanga police station Wahiduzzaman told Banglanews that “one person has been arrested in this regard. We are investigating the matter seriously.”
