Journalists being harassed by DSA: BFUJ

A section of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) has alleged that professional journalists are being harassed by filing cases under the Digital Security Act (DSA).

The organization demanded immediate repeal of the provisions of the DSA, which act as a barrier to independent journalism, and the withdrawal of the DSA cases filed against the journalists.

The president of the organization Omar Farooq and acting secretary general Hedayet Hossain Molla made this remark in a joint statement on Sunday (July 31).

The statement expressed concern over the killing and torture of journalists and the filing of cases against journalists under the Digital Security Act.

The statement also said that Imran Hussain of Barguna (Ekattor Television and RisingBD.com), Mahbubur Rahman of Mirsrai Upazila in Chittagong (daily Jugantar and daily Azadi), Enayet Hossain (Dainik Kale Kantha and Daily Purvakon), Mohammad Yusuf (Bangla Tribune, Dainik Ittefaq, and Dainik Sangu), Nayan Kanti (daily morning page), Md. Javed (Dainik Swadesh Pratidin), Sekander Hossain (Dainik Samakal) and Md. Zahirul Islam (my news) was arrested under Digital Security ACT for broadcasting news.
