Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) has arrested four people in connection with the murder of Shahjahanpur Awami League leader Zahidul Islam Tipu and student Samia Afran Preeti on 25 March 2022.

The arrestees are Awami League leaders Arifur Rahman Sohel, Mahbubur Rahman Titu, Khairul, and JAPA leader Zuber Alam Khan Robin.

According to DB police sources, they were linked with Tipu's murder plan.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Detective Motijheel Division Rifat Rahman Shamim confirmed the matter to Banglanews on Sunday (July 31) afternoon.

He said they were arrested from different places in the capital on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, Sumon Sikdar Musa, a key suspect in the case was extradited to Bangladesh from Oman on June 9.

Later, he was taken into custody and interrogated several times. DB also interrogated several people to verify Musa's information, said the officer.

"Titu, Robin, and Sohail are involved in Tipu's murder plan. Titu is the most dangerous among them. He is associated with the underworld for a long time... he was once close to Jubo League leader Riazul Haque Khan Milky," said Rifat.

Milky was killed in front of Shoppers World in Gulshan on 29 July 2013.

Investigators have confirmed that Masum Mohammad Akash was the main shooter in Tipu's murder.

The Bullets used in Tipu's assassination were taken from 'Arms Museum' in Purana Paltan. Rakibur Rahman Rakib of Ward No. 10 Chhatra League leader of Motijheel delivered 15 rounds of bullets to Sumon Sikder Musa.

Shamim was driving a motorcycle during the killing mission. He is currently absconding in India. Like Musa, the police headquarters has started various activities to bring him back to the country through Interpol.
