As per the Road Safety Foundation, 219 people were killed in 116 accidents occurred from January 1, 2020 to July 28, 2022 (about 31 months) at railway crossings in Bangladesh.

The organization has also made several recommendations to avoid accidents on Saturday (July 30).

According to statistics, 69 people died in 38 accidents in 2020, 76 people died in 43 accidents in 2021, and 74 people died in 35 accidents till July 28, 2022.

The executive director of the organization Saidur Rahman also identified the reasons for the railway crossing accident.

The reasons are: non-arrangement of gatemen and gate bars at a large number of railway crossings considering them unauthorized and illegal, negligence of duty of gatemen at legal railway crossings and shortage of manpower as gatemen, lack of awareness and impatience among vehicle drivers and road users, non-punishment of those responsible for accidents and lack of law in railway management, and lack of governance.
