Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed hope that Bangladesh would be able to purchase food for nine months with the existing foreign currency reserves.
PM was addressing virtually from her official residence Gono Bhaban in the Capital as chief guest on the occasion of the 28th founding anniversary of Awami Volunteer League on Wednesday (July 27).
Awami League's joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nashim also spoke at the meeting organized under the chairmanship of the Acting President of the Volunteers League, Gazi Mejbahul Hossain Shachchu.
The premier said, “Our government increased reserves to 48 billion dollars. Our imports were stopped during Corona-19 period. Later we had to import. We did spend our reserves while importing and implementing the country’s development work.”
Besides, “Our government provided Covid vaccines free of cost, we spent a lot of money there”, she said.
The premier said “We must keep in mind that countrymen will be benefited ones the industries that are developed goes into production.”
“We can buy food for six to nine months with the current reserve, said PM.
