Gazi Anisur Rahman, a businessman who allegedly attempted to commit suicide by setting himself on fire at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on July 4, has died on Tuesday morning.
The deceased Anisur Rahman, also former president of Kushtia district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
He breathed his last at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery at 6:00am while undergoing treatment.
Coordinator of the institute Dr Samanta Lal Sen confirmed the matter.
Earlier on July 4, Anisur Rahman attempted to commit suicide after not getting back money he lent to a company.
With burn injuries to several parts of the body, journalists and others rescued Gazi Anis and took him to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost.
Mohammad Ali, a friend of Anisur Rahman, told reporters at the hospital that Anis owed Tk 1.26 crore to Henolux Company Limited, which had not been paying the amount back for long.
