Railway workers have blocked the Dhirashram and Tongi railways, demanding the reinstatement of their jobs on Monday (July 4).
The train communications with Dhaka were disrupted for an hour and a half.
Later, in the afternoon, the workers withdrew the movement following the assurance of the senior officials of the railways.
Tongi Railway Station Master Abdur Rakib told banglanews that temporary workers formed a human chain in protest of hiring manpower through the contractors (Outsourcing). At one stage, they blocked the Dhaka-Joydevpur rail route and staged a demonstration.
Shahidullah Hiro, sub-inspector (SI) of Joydebpur Railway Junction Police Camp, said train communications with Dhaka were suspended for more than an hour due to the railway workers' protest. Later, they lifted the blockade.
