Five killed in Narsingdi road accident

At least five pedestrians were killed and four others injured as a covered van hit them in Mahmudabad Bazar Machine House area on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on Thursday (June 30) morning.

The deceased were identified as Farooq Miah (55), son of Fayez Ali of Mirzapur Union in the upazila, Mustakim Miah (40), son of Abu Tayyab Miah of Nilkuthi area, Ripon Miah (28), son of Sentu Miah of Mamudabad area, Bachchu Miah (56), son of Janab Ali, and Shajahan Mia (50) of the same area.

Mozammel Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bhairab Highway Police Station, said as the driver of the Sylhet-bound covered van from Dhaka lost control over the steering, the vehicle fell into a roadside ditch after hitting the pedestrians leaving five dead and injuring four others.

“The covered van is in our custody. The legal action is being taken in this regard,” he added.
