534 hotels in Cox's Bazar run without environmental clearances

More than five hundred hotels, motels, and guest houses in Cox's Bazar do not have ETP plants and environmental clearances said the Department of the Environment on Tuesday (June 28).

Due to the lack of hygienic sewerage system in the hotels, human wastes are sinking into the sea through various drains, ponds, and canals. As a result, the Bay of Bengal is being polluted alarmingly, said the department officials.

People building hotels and doing business in the tourist city by spending crores of money, but there is no ETP for human waste management, he said.

Mufidul Alam said that the operation is being carried out to keep the sea beach pollution-free, adding that, two residential hotels, Hotel C Park and Laguna Beach Resort at Kalatali, were fined a total of Tk 1 lakh each. At the same time, the establishment of ETP was instructed.
