Toll worth Tk 82 lakh 19 thousand 50 has been collected in first eight hours of opening of the Padma Bridge for traffic movement.  

Some 15,200 vehicles crossed the bridge during the hours on the first day of opening of the mega structure in the country  

Executive Engineer of Bangladesh Bridge Authority Abul Hossain disclosed this information on Sunday afternoon.  

The long-awaited Padma Bridge was opened to traffic at 5:40am today, after its formal inauguration by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday (June 25). 

Meanwhile, the sufferings of people of southern region have been mitigated after opening of the Padma Bridge as communication between Dhaka and southern region was dependent on ferry services.

Several hours were spent to cross the Padma River from Jazira end. Now only few minutes are being spent to cross the mighty river by the newly-built Padma Bridge.

People are crossing the Padma Bridge by different vehicles, including motorbikes and private cars.  

Besides, truck, bus and other vehicles are moving through the bridge within few minutes.
