Expressing concern over the rise of children's death in road accidents, Road Safety Foundation said at least 1,674 children were killed in road accidents across the country in the last two years.

Road Safety Foundation revealed the data at a press conference on Thursday morning (MAY 19).

The report collected the data of road accidents from January 2020 to April 2022.

The report said road accidents in the last 28 months killed 331 children as passengers of different vehicles. 1026 children were killed when they were stroked by vehicles while crossing the road and walking on the road.

At least 48 children were killed as drivers and helpers of trucks, pickups, tractors, drum trucks and other goods vehicles and 26 children were killed as motorcyclists and riders.

As bus passengers 62, 25 as private car, microbus and ambulance, 183 as passengers of three-wheelers (CNG driven autorickshaws, easybikes etc.), 51 as passengers of locally made vehicles (Nasimon, Bhatvati, Mahindra, Tomtom etc.), children were killed.

According to the platform, the reasons for the increase in child deaths in road accidents are explained as, the country's roads and road transport are not child-friendly; Lack of awareness among children about road use; Not giving advice and training to children about road use in families and educational institutions; Driving by incompetent and underage drivers; The crisis of proper medical care for the children injured in the accident and the financial inability of the family to treat the injured children.

The Road Safety Foundation report recommended formation of a special government fund for the treatment of the injured in road accidents and to implement the "Road Transport Act 2018".
